The much discussed and praised intercultural cooperation needs to have solid foundations so as to be brought into practice. It cannot be realized and prosper without knowledge, understanding, patience and the ability to enter into the world of the Other. All these qualities are fostered through reading. Reading, apart form being a key building block of learning is also a privileged form of social interaction which does not ignore the complexity of our experience. The book, in this context, is viewed as a means to bridge often unsurpassable (psychological, social, cultural and political) distances, educating individuals for a cohesive society based on understanding and respect. Also, by stimulating the imagination it keeps alive the capacity to approach reality in a creative way.

We wish to increase awareness among readers that live literature is a vital segment of any contemporary culture, and that an intercultural dialogue is established most firmly not on telecommunication screens but at an all-round meeting of individual human beings.
